Beauty Hacks

Sometimes we are such in a hurry that we tend to forget a few things. Here are some beauty hacks that are easy and fast that will help you get through your busy days.

"Are You Even Wearing Makeup?"

That’s a response you probably want to hear. Here’s a natural makeup beauty hack tip from Gina, the founder.

1. Before you start putting on make up, mist the the beauty blender with Hydroglow Beauty Mister.

2. Then dip it into the foundation. It helps the foundation looks more natural and not as cakey.

3. Apply all around the face and there you are done! This tip leaves you with you skin looking makeup less.

Keep Your Skin Hydrated Through Your Sleep

Living in a dry weather area/low humidity has caused my skin to be dehydrated sometimes. I use a humidifier in my room at night when I want that extra glow or after I traveled on a plane. I simply like using good ole H2O in it steaming up my room. I usually place it next to my bed somewhere giving me that extra hydrated skin while I am sleeping.  It's like a mini hydrating facial mist while you sleep!

Wide Awake Eyes in Seconds

A white eyeliner is a deal maker when it comes to making the eyes come alive. A lot of times, we don't focus on inner rim as much as the outer part of the eyes. However, this little beauty hack can change your look in seconds. Before you start your eye makeup, use a white eyeliner on your inner rims. You will see that your eyes will pop more and look well-rested.

That Glow Though

Keep your skin hydrated with the Hydroglow beauty mister!

Why you should bring the hydroglow beauty mister everywhere you go.
1.  Whether the summer weather is dry or humid, it can definitely affect your skin in a bad way.  Bring the hydroglow mister and spray away because it can help you cool down and leaving your skin glowing.

2. The hot weather can irritated our mood sometimes, so spray for a fresh feeling. The rose gernanium and petals in the beauty water can help you boost your mood too.

3. Last but not least, the hydroglow  beauty mister can help keep your makeup glowing all day. You can use it as a makeup primer or setter

Beauty food for the summer!

Ka.lu.mi: (KAH-LUE-ME) is an amalgamation
of the Greek word “kalon” which means ideal
physical and moral beauty and the
word “lumi” which means light.

I had the chance to meet with Chrissy and Jayla, Founders of Kalumi Health recently and have been snacking on there beauty food collagen protein bars. They keep my satisfied until my next meal and are packed with good-for-you and good-for-your-skin foods. They were pregnancy approved fro my Dr. so that got me even more excited. This makes it on my Summer Glow list, especially for all you traveling this Season, or simply always on the go. Check out what Kalumi Health is all about...

Combining marine collagen with our favorite beauty-boosting super foods, like yacon syrup and vitamin rich sweet potaoes, KALUMI BEAUTYfood was born. The result? Hydrated skin, longer nails, thicker hair, happy tummies and a nutritious, really delicious, protein bar.
All of Kalumi's ingredients are gluten free, non-GMO, non-dairy, soy free and fake free. We pride ourselves on giving you clean, nutrient rich and above all, great tasting snacks.

MARINE COLLAGEN, extracted from fish skin and scales, is recognized as the safest source of collagen. It is free of all possible toxins and diseases linked to collagen derived from land animals.
Marine collagen is absorbed 1.5 x faster than other sources of collagen, which means it has superb bioavailability. Because of this, it is considered the best type of collagen for your hair, skin and nails.

Let's not forget about that hair glow!

I have been using Captain Blankenship's Golden Waves Sea Salt Shimmer Spray on some of my phostoshoots lately and I have been loving everything about it! Especially that it doesn't leave the hair to "crunchy" with a soft feel. Its blend of organic sea algae and aloe vera to help nourish the scalp and hair with vital nutrients and minerals while Atlantic sea salt adds texture and soft waves. Spray on hair liberally and shimmer away in the summer sunshine!

You can add texture, waves and a touch of golden shimmer by spraying all over hair when wet or dry, then tousle and style. Shake well before use.

Social Media Cleanse

You are way cooler than your Social Media feed. Way cooler. And far more beautiful without those filters. Don’t compare your behind the scenes, and unpostable moments to someone else’s highlight reels. Comparison can truly be a thief of joy! Being present over perfect has been my go-to lately. Reminding myself that I don’t have to be perfect, just present while doing my best. Have you read that book? #presentoverperfect I recommend it highly!

Did you know...

The word POEMA inspired me for my new beauty brand, POEMA ROSE COLLECTION.

POEMA is a Greek inspired word for Masterpiece, also where we get the word “poem” from. God made us an original work of art. We have no duplicates. I can never be like anyone else, and no one can ever be me! We are created on purpose for a purpose. We are beautifully, wonderfully and fearfully made. The world needs what we’ve got! May we be bold, beautiful and kind to one another along this journey.

INTERVIEW with Yvonne Ardestani

I prepped Yvonne's skin with KHUS KHUS The Roses Hydrolat and Poethique Radiance Serum for a radiant, glowing skin. I used Kjaer Weis Creme Foundation and Blush in " Sun Touched". Au Naturale Concealer for under eyes and spots needing cover up throughout the face. I set concealer and foundation with RMS transclucent powder, then set her whole face with a custome made Beauty Water ( coming soon) for a lived in, non-powdery look.

So excited to have interviewed my friend Yvonne! She's my favorite LA Vegan Chef and I'm obsessed with her food, especially her Goat "Cheese"! Even my non-vegan family LOVES it. Her food is healthy, vegan, gluten-free and tasty. She puts her heart and soul when creating her food, and you can feel her passion in every bite. She's as beautiful inside as she is externally, which is why she's joining us here! We find out more about her Vegan lifestyle, how she found freedom through her struggles and how she achieves this healthy, glowing skin. Because whole beauty always starts on the inside. This is her's- raw, honest, sometimes challenging but always finding beauty in her story. She tells us #thisismybeauty...

Share a funny/wierd fact about yourself?
1)      When my parents settled in San Diego, my dad was in the US Navy and supplemented his income doing real estate.  After 20 something years of serving, my dad retired and focused on real estate full-time to support his family of 8.  In that time, we had rental property and my dad was managing other properties.  My sisters and I would help out a lot.  I painted inside and outside of homes, pulled huge weeds, sanded wooden floors, and moved a lot of furniture.  There were many instances where instead of using moving trucks, my dad would put something on top of our car, lower all the windows, and have me and my sisters hold the ropes with one hand and hold up the furniture with our other hand.  While my dad drove slowly, I’d smile at my sisters nervously thinking, “I hope we don’t drop it!”

2)      My mom immigrated to the US from Panngasinan Philippines and she cooked with coconut a lot! Growing up when stores didn’t sell shredded coconut, my mom would buy a lot of fresh whole coconuts from the Commissary.  She’d cut them in half with a huge knife and on Saturday mornings while watching cartoon I would take turns with my sisters, sit on a grator scrape, and shred coconut.

3)      I sometimes carry kale in my handbag in case I get hungry and need to munch on something.

Take us back, why did you choose to become a Vegan and what were some impactful resources that helped guide you through that journey?
I initially became vegan for my health.  My dad and my entire paternal side suffered from diabetes and heart disease.  While I was in college, my dad suddenly passed from a massive heart attack at the young age of 61.  So the fact that I am predisposed to diabetes and heart disease, and have hypothyroidism has led me to this path of health and wellness.

A friend of mine who I considered a health nut was reading The Beauty Detox Solution by Kimberly Snyder and it inspired me to do the same. This book and The China Study sparked many “aha!” moments. After learning about how our bodies are designed, where humans belong in nature as we relate to gorillas and tigers, then reading about the negative effects of animal protein and dairy consumption in the human body, it all started making sense.  A light bulb switched on and like that I went cold turkey and fully embraced the vegan lifestyle.  I started drinking at least 16 ounces of a green smoothie every morning. I noticed positive results within 3 days. I started following Kimberly Snyder’s principles and felt better as I made other changes in my diet.

I enjoyed how the vegan diet made me feel and started researching more and watching documentaries. To name a few, I watched Forks over Knives, Food Matters, Vegucated, Hungry for Change, and then environmental documentaries. All of the films broadened my perspective and led me to be more of an ethical vegan.  I am now vegan for longevity, the protection and welfare of animals, and the betterment of our environment and our world.

When was that pivotal moment you said YES, I'm starting a business!

I am my father’s daughter.  My father owned a real estate company, which I worked for at a very young age. I always knew that I'd own a business. I just wasn't sure what it would be right away, but I knew that I wanted to make a positive impact on people’s lives in some way. It wasn't until after I graduated from culinary school, worked in restaurants, and became vegan and creating recipes that I found my true passion Creating healthier alternatives to delicious foods is something I'm very passionate about and feel aligned with mind, body, and soul.

What are 3 things you would say to anyone reading with a dream to start a business in the food in industry?
1) Get experience. Work in the food industry first. You won't really know what you get yourself into until you actually get your feet wet.

2) Know your numbers. Do your due diligence - find lowest prices on ingredients and price accordingly so you pay yourself and actually make a profit.

3) Prepare to work long hours.

Facetune.jpg

I see your hustle, you work VERY hard at your business, your up in the early morning whipping up delicious recipees for customers, AND your'e always on top of the IG /Social Media game - what fuels your fire, what helps you stay focused?
I set short-term and long term goals and have a vision of how my I’d like my life to be.   how I'd like to eat, how I'd like to exercise, how I'd like to be financially, how I'd like to have my relationships with myself, with friends and family, clients, etc. My main goal in life is to feel joy in life in every way possible.  By getting clear about what I really want, I create maps to get to where I am to where I'd like to be. Once I reach every destination, I feel more fulfilled and experience joy and I feel I am really living. That is what motivates and drives me!

Can we just talk about your famous, delicious, and my ALL-TIME favoirte ( you know my love for this runs deep, I'm soaking the cashews as we speak lol ) - VEGAN CHEESE! (Gina, I don't share this recipe with anyone because I sell it now :))
How was this vegan-cheese/ game-changer born?

My vegan cheese was born during the holidays. I've always been an entertainer--I've always hosted parties of all sorts. In my previous omnivorous life, I used to serve cheese platters and the most popular of cheeses served was a soft cheese with cranberry and dill. Having used cashews to make creamy vegan cheesecakes, it only made sense to attempt using cashews into a delicious vegan goatless cheese. After a few attempts, my vegan goatless cheese cake to life.

Was there ever a time in your career or maybe even in life, when you felt like your burden was getting too heavy?
What got you through those trials?

As the youngest of 5 over-achieving/highly successful/very opinionated sisters, it was definitely not easy. I was always compared to them, pressure to take a similar path and perform at their level, and I felt judged all the time. I spent most of my years in the self-help section of the bookstore, going to church, trying to figure myself out, and find peace within myself. It wasn't until recently that I had a spiritual awakening and change the way I see the world and myself in it. It is so free-ing and I am so much happier. I read The Untethered Soul. It's a non-self-help self-help book, and it helped to start thinking about life so much differently.

Facetune 4.jpg

You just celebrated another year of life here on Earth- Happy Birthday! Looking back, reflecting on the past year, trials, struggles, heartache, triumph, celebrations, what are you most thankful for?
Thank you! Looking back, I am most thankful to God and the universe for allowing me to acknowledge and be grateful for all blessings in my life, and for giving me the strength to overcome all my trials, heart ache, and to learn from every pitfall. I've grown stronger and wiser as a result.

Are you starting your new year with a new mindset or new goals? What do you feel is your biggest purpose in life? Why do you think you have been placed on earth and gifted another year of life?
New goals? Just to always do my best. I think my biggest purpose in life is to spread positivity and love. Love for oneself, for each other, the animals, for our environment, and the planet, for God and the universe. When we love and show appreciation for all of these things, I feel closer to God. I guess I'm here for the human experience, to do the things that light my fire, and if people get inspired along the way, I don't feel bad about it. Loving is a win-win-win-win-win!

Some of your favoirte Vegan spots in L.A?
I actually just wrote an article on VegNews highlighting my top picks in LA. Check it out here,

http://vegnews.com/articles/page.do?pageId=9944&catId=4

If you were told today that you could do anything you wanted in life, and not fail, what would that be?
I would live an adventurous, passionate life with my life-partner, traveling the world, building a life together--all while my business ran itself and I was able to to create recipes and products that are beneficial to our health, the animals, and our planet. Still want to create healthier alternatives for people to enjoy while still pleasing their palates. If I can help make that happen, life would be gooood!

Was there a dark time in your life where you found beauty in the end of it all?
Yes, recently actually. I'm in the process of getting a divorce. We were together for 14 years. The whole process has been painful, but we both know it is for the best. We have irreconcilable differences and want the best for each other and are supportive of each other's life decisions.

When your last breathe come upon you, and your story here on earth comes to an end. What 3 words do you want ot be written on your tombstone?
Love is living.

Thanks for being a part of this, Yvonne! I'm so grateful for our friendship and I'm glad you joined, stripping it all down, unmasked...to serve as encouragement for somone reading. Thank you for sharing YOUR BEAUTY.

Thank you so much for taking the time and for doing what you do, enhancing natural beauty with non-toxic facial products. Love you, Gina

THE BEACHY WAVE (aka Rocker Beach Wave) Hair Style by Jamie Leonard

Here's a little Hair Inspiration created from my dear friend and L.A -based Celebrity Hair Stylist- Jamie Leonard! We created this video while getting Brittany Martinez ready for her Interview with us. (coming soon)

I love when I get the opportunity to work with Jamie on photo shoots and T.V for Makeup (me) and Hair (Jamie). She's a Santa Cruz boho-babe- native and her laid-back, calm, effrotless approach to work and life reflects that while making you want to be around her all day! Her great sense of style with vintage pieces she hand selects and wears ( and also sells) is refreshing and brings such a care-free, vibe to L.A.
She humbly KILLS it at her job with her gifted styling skills and I would say my favoirte stlyle she gives is the L.A. famous; THE BEACHY WAVE! ( she also sometimes calls it THE ROCKER BEACH WAVE)

I think our work style and approach is similiar when it comes to an effortless and never over-doing it look. To me, this speaks highly about carrying the best beauty available on the inside and confindently knowing that. Having a beauty within that looks better than any listick or hairpary can ever give you! We hope you enjoy and dont forget to comment or share, we love to hear what you think. With love, Gina Caraballo/ Founder FL&B.

Here is a breakdown from Jamie:
In doing this style-
I prepped the hair with Foundation Mist by Oribe, this protects the hair while using heat and curling, I also add a small drop of Gold Lust Oil by Oribe.

I sprayed Davines Sea Salt Spray for texture.

Finally, I sprayed Super Fine Hair Spray all over by Oribe.

After I finished bending the hair with an up and down motion to create a wave ( as shown on video) I sprayed the hair on the bottom half ends only using a downward motion with Texture Spray by Oribe.

I used a 1 1/2 inch Curling Iron to go back and create  more wave and texture while "touching up" any peices needing more movement.

Finally, I shake out hair with comb or fingers to create the ultimate beach waves or as I also like to call- a ROCKER BEACH WAVE.

Thanks for watching!

INTERVIEW WITH BRITT NILSSON #THISISMYBEAUTY

INTERVIEW WITH BRITT NILSSON #THISISMYBEAUTY

I always knew I would be meeting Britt in person one day. I have crazy visions like that sometimes. So I reached out to her and asked her if she'd be interested in being a part of my mission by answering a few questions and getting her makeup done by me for a photo session, in a very natural way. I wanted to "strip-it-all-down" and get real with life, and with beauty. My goal and mission here has always been to shine light on what true beauty should mean, rooted in truth, knowing that while makeup and getting glammed-up can be fun, we dont rely on outer beauty perfection to makeup up our identity. I think it all starts with getting the inside right first, for the outside to fall into place. Centered in God's love, and choosing to do our best to live a clean, non-toxic lifestyle as in what we feed our bodies AND our minds for a true #beautyinsideout. So I decided to start a campaigne, inviting some of my friends whom I beleieve to be beautiful in many ways, asking them to share where they found beauty within their story. Please join us and enjoy reading about our first interviewee; Britt Nilsson where she shares #thisismybeauty...

BEAUTY. Undone with Kristen Dalton Wolfe

Here's a quick makeup video shot behind the scenes with Kristen! This captures our get-ready moment before we sat her down for our "INNER BEAUTY" interview videos. She's a natural and I only want to enhance the beauty that was already seen. We also had so much fun getting to each other more, although I never ask questions that pertain to the interview questions because I always enjoy first time natural reactions and answers. If you haven't already noticed my signature look is an effortless, undone look. I love giving the skin a great glow, even if the skin already gets oily. In that case I make sure I use lighter, faster absorbing oils. Oil will balance out the excess oils on our skin, plus they're so nurturing and help keep skin youthful. Of course I opted out for clean, organic products for a healthy, inside-out radiant beauty.  Our skin is the largest organ and what goes on, goes in. I'm always mindful of choosing non-toxic ingredients in everything I use. Don't forget to check our INNER BEAUTY interview videos and share with anyone in need of encouragement. ENJOY! - xo Gina Caraballo -Founder of For Love & Beauty/Green Makeup Artist    * not sponsored

Brands I used were RMS Beauty, Juice Beauty, Vapor Beauty.

SKIN:

I prepped with Dr Haushka Facial Toner, Juice Beauty Day Moisturizer sealed in with Josie Maran 100% Pure Organic Argan Oil for radiant skin.

MAKEUP:

RMS Beauty products:

"Solar" cream eyeshadow on lid

"Magic Luminizer" as highlight on cheekbones

"Buriti Bronzer" as a soft contour under cheekbones, temples, and on eye crease ( this is a cream base formula so I set it with a translucent powder to prevent creasing, or you can apply an eye primer)

"Kjaerweis" foundation for under-eye concealer.

INNER BEAUTY Part 2 with Kristen Dalton Wolfe

We sat down with Kristen Dalton Wolfe a few months back, and we had an intimate, honest interview with her. During this interview she opens up about some of her struggles, including depression. We loved her raw, stripped-down honesty and courage to step out and speak out about things that have impacted her life in big ways. We mostly loved hearing about what helps her through those difficult moments. She packs a full schedule as the Creator of She is More, author of Rise Up series, speaker, host, model and most of you know her as former Miss USA. Not to mention, she recently announced her becoming a soon-to-be Mommy. We are all so excited for her growing family!

We pray and hope someone out there needed to hear this message, and it served a purpose! Share with someone that may need to hear this. We do all this as a way of giving back to our community in hope of encouragement, and to also share with everyone that deep down inside, underneath all the makeup, we are all no different.  We really hope you enjoy watching and we would love to here your comments and feedback. Don't forget to share this with someone you who represents inner beauty. Love & Blessings, Gina Caraballo /Founder
